One of the first places that we came to eat after landing in Waikiki was Five Star Poke. It's a food cart located in a small food cart pod at Kuhio and Kapuni. This is one of the better poke spots in the immediate Waikiki area and we came back once more before leaving.
On our first visit, we had the combo spicy and original ahi with a tart ginger lemonade. The spicy ahi was only lightly spicy but the ahi was so buttery. And the lemonade is so refreshing on a hot day.
On our second visit, we had the garlic shoyu seared salmon and original garlic shoyu ahi. Again, didn't disappoint. Make sure you check them out as they were one of the better places for poke in the heart of Waikiki. Note credit card only.
The poke here is definitely above average. I also really like their mixes. Honest to the primary ingredients and the sauces and garnishes all contribute to the overall taste.
But advertising what they are selling as a "bowl" is a blatant lie. The portions are definitely half-a-bowl at best. So essentially they're charging $29.90 for a bowl of poke.
This is taking advantage of tourists at its best. I live in the Bay Area which has the highest cost of living (roughly equivalent to Hawaii) and even to those standards, this is pure swindling.
Oh did I mention the default "tip" selection for a food truck upon checkout?
Cute.lityle food truck. First time visiting and the food was good. Seating is outdoor in a relaxed picnic type of setting. Fish was fresh with tasty toppings. Good variety of options available with a friendly and helpful staff.
Waahooooo šš Fabulous poke bowls!! Loved it!!
We love spicy food and opted for the spicy mayo ahi and salmon bowls and loved them both! The fish were both so fresh and delicious š
The price tag is high but competitive with every other poke vendor in Oahu, so that's not a surprise.
The picnic tables worked out great as well. Very cool vibes. I definitely want to go back during this Oahu vacation!!

Friendliness is lacking a bit. The guy who was serving doesnāt smile, look at us, just took order and doneš Maybe happy mode and some more smiles would help customers feel betterāŗļø Good luck!
Every poke restaurant is going to have its own unique style and flavor to differentiate themselves. We found Five Star to be super solid and portion size was enough for us. The fish was fresh and we liked that the bowls were warm and the salmon was lightly seared. Each bowl option has a different topping, like fresh onions, wasabi and green onion āsalsaā, etc.
Itās located alongside other food trucks two blocks off the beach. Gets busy at peak hours so try to get there a bit early or later.
Great find! Ended up visiting 3 times this little spot with a few food trucks, twice for the poke (my last meal in Waikiki was poke -thatās how much I liked it). The Japanese guy was so welcoming and genuinely friendly. Having lived in Japan for few years, really missed good customer service which was hard to find while visiting the island.
First of three (1/3) spots for my "poke challenge" during this trip. This was among the highest rated in Waikiki area. Went directly here for lunch after checking into hotel. I asked to half and half my 2 choice bowl into "original shoyu garlic ahi and salmon jalapeƱo." Taste and flavors were good, nothing spectacular; freshness was good; price was rather high for portion size. Overall, 4* for this poke bowl.
